My future job in a Glossary

20 Speech Therapy terms

Hi, my name is Marilie Belleau and I want to be a speech therapist. It is my third year in Natural Science. After the CEGEP, I want to study in teaching to access to the master's degree in speech therapy. The job of the speech therapist is to help people with swallowing, language and communication disorders. They can take care of the prevention and screening of a disorder that is related to language. Afterwards, they can make recommendations and do exercises to improve or even erase their disorder. This glossary brings together 20 words that I will need in my field of study. This glossary will be useful for all new speech therapists and for all future students who are going to study this subject.Speech therapies are a way of helping people by offering them services adapted to their needs concerning spoken or written language. It also is the movement related to our mouth and related to sensitive area in our brain. This glossary can help to find symptoms, diseases associated with pronunciation difficulties, to diagnose, etc. There are pictures and examples to help us to put the word into context. I found several words in a website called Association Québécoise des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes. The terms all have a point in common, language and what relates to the language. This may be good for explaining what the terms mean to our patient. To find these words, I used the lexical field of speech therapy. To find the definition of most words, I used the CNRTL online dictionary and Oxford language. If you are interested in speech therapy, you should start using and learning the meaning/context of these words to adapt to them. It will be easier.
